Happiness is in it, and the quiet of ordinary things. A table, a chair, a book with a paper-knife stuck between the pages. And the petal falling from the rose, and the light flickering as we sit silent, or, perhaps, bethinking us of some trifle, suddenly speak.

I’ve not seen this Van Gogh painting before, it’s really lovely. 💕
Thank you, Eliza. It’s interesting how the colors in this painting look different on different websites. I do love the coloring on this one! According to The Vincent van Gogh Gallery website:
There are a number of Van Gogh’s floral works, from Saint-Rémy and Auvers periods in particular, that have faded dramatically over the years. The chemical composition of certain paints that Van Gogh was using wasn’t entirely stable and many of the reds and blues have faded to pale whites and greens. We’re fortunate to have photographic records, of course, and conservators today are making every effort to stabilize the paintings, but it’s still unfortunate that there are some of Van Gogh’s paintings we’ll never again see as he intended them.
I like this beautiful painting you have paired with the poem Barbara. Silence is golden.
Thank you, Linda. I love how we can sit quietly and notice with gratitude the simple things surrounding us. So much the better when we have a companion to share a random thought with, if one should pop into our heads.
Yes, it’s always better with a companion, even if you sit silently, but someone to compare notes with, should we feel like sharing our thoughts, is preferable. I have not had someone to share my thoughts with in “real time” for so long, I forget that joy sometimes.
