My 9th-great-grandfather, Capt. Jonathan Sparrow, son of Richard & Pandora (—) Sparrow, was born c. 1629, and died 21 March 1707 in Eastham, Massachusetts. He married (as his second wife and as her second husband) after 5 June 1667, Hannah (Prence) Mayo, who was born c. 1629 in Plymouth, Massachusetts, and died before 23 November 1698 in Eastham, daughter of Thomas & Patience (Brewster) Prence.
Hannah married (as her first husband) 13 February 1650 in Eastham, Nathaniel Mayo, who was born c. 1625, and died before 4 March 1662 in Eastham, son of John Mayo.
Jonathan married (as his first wife) 26 October 1654 in Eastham, Rebecca Bangs, who was born 1 October 1636 in Plymouth, and died 19 October 1677 in Eastham, daughter of Edward & Rebecca (—) Bangs.
Jonathan married (as his third wife and as her second husband) 23 November 1698 in Barnstable, Massachusetts, Sarah (Lewis) Cobb, who was born there 2 February 1643, and died there 11 February 1735, daughter of George & Mary (Doggett) Lewis, and widow of James Cobb.
Jonathan arrived in America as a small child with his parents in 1632. He and his wives were settlers of Eastham, which was incorporated in 1651. Jonathan lies buried there in Cove Burying Ground, along with his parents and his first two wives, Rebecca and Hannah.
Hannah & Nathaniel were the parents of five children:
1. Thomas Mayo, born 7 December 1650 in Eastham, died there 23 April 1729. He married 13 June 1677 in Eastham, Barbara Knowles, who was born there 28 September 1656, and died there 23 February 1715, daughter of Richard & Ruth (Bowers) Knowles.
2. Nathaniel Mayo, born 16 November 1652 in Eastham, died there 30 November 1709. He married (as his first wife) 28 January 1678 in Orleans, Massachusetts, Elizabeth Wixon, who was born 29 May 1660 in Eastham, and died there December 1699, daughter of Robert & Alice (—) Wixon.
Nathaniel married (as his second wife and as her second husband) 26 May 1707 in Harwich, Massachusetts, Mercy (Davis) Young, who was born c. 1662, and died 12 February 1758 in Eastham, daughter of Robert & Ann (Kingman) Davis, and widow of Nathaniel Young.
3. Samuel Mayo, born 12 October 1655 in Eastham, died there 29 October 1738. The identity of Samuel’s first wife is unknown.
Samuel married (as his second wife and as her second husband) 31 August 1727 in Eastham, Mary (—) Swett, who was born c. 1675, and died before 9 April 1734 in Eastham, widow of John Swett.
4. Hannah Mayo, born 17 October 1657 in Eastham, died there in June 1676.
5. Theophilus Mayo, born 17 December 1659 in Eastham.
Jonathan & Rebecca were the parents of seven children:
1. Rebecca Sparrow, born 30 October 1655 in Eastham, died 7 February 1740 in Harwich. She married 31 December 1673 in Harwich, Dea. Thomas Freeman, who was born 16 September 1653 in Eastham, and died 9 February 1716 in Harwich, son of John & Mercy (Prence) Freeman.
2. John Sparrow, born 2 November 1656 in Eastham, died there 23 February 1735. He married 5 December 1683 in Eastham, Apphia Tracy, who was born c. 1663, and died 15 December 1739 in Eastham, daughter of John & Mercy (Prence) Tracy.
3. Priscilla Sparrow, born 13 February 1658 in Eastham, died 29 March 1682. She married c. 1679 (as his first wife) c. 1679, Edward Gray, who was born 19 June 1654 in Barnstable, and died 7 June 1726 in Tiverton, Rhode Island, son of John & Hannah (Lumpkin) Gray.
4. Apphia Sparrow, born 11 December 1660 in Eastham, died there 19 February 1661.
5. Lydia Sparrow, born c. 1662 in Eastham, died there 16 March 1708. She married (as her first husband) c. 1683, William Freeman, who was born c. 1661 in Eastham, and died there before 19 January 1687, son of John & Mercy (Prence) Freeman.
Lydia married (as her second husband) 3 May 1687 in Eastham, Dea. Jonathan Higgins, who was born there 30 August 1664, and died there 2 November 1754, son of Jonathan & Elizabeth (Rogers) Higgins.
6. Elizabeth Sparrow, born c. 1663 in Eastham, died c. 1688. She married (as his first wife) 5 February 1684 in Orleans, Capt. Samuel Freeman, who was born 26 March 1662 in Eastham, and died there 30 January 1743, son of Samuel & Mercy (Southworth) Freeman.
7. Jonathan Sparrow, born 9 July 1665 in Eastham, died there 9 March 1740. He married (as his first wife) c. 1690, Rebecca Merrick, who was born 28 November 1668 in Eastham, and died there before 5 May 1723, daughter of William & Abigail (Hopkins) Merrick.
Jonathan married (as his second wife and as her second husband) c. 1708, Sarah (Snow) Young, who was born 26 February 1674 in Orleans, and died there 28 November 1746, daughter of Jabez & Elizabeth (Smith) Snow, and widow of Henry Young.
Hannah & Jonathan were the parents of two children:
1. Richard Sparrow (my 8th-great-grandfather), born 17 March 1670 in Eastham, died there 13 April 1728. He married (as her first husband) 4 February 1701 in Orleans, Mercy Cobb, who was born 9 April 1685 in Barnstable, and died c. 1732, daughter of James & Sarah (Lewis) Cobb.
2. Patience Sparrow, baptized 25 October 1675 in Eastham, died 25 October 1745 in Barnstable. She married (as her first husband) 27 May 1691 in Harwich, Joseph Paine, who was born in April 1666 in Eastham, and died there 1 October 1712, son of Thomas & Mary (Snow) Paine.
Patience married (as her second husband and as his second wife) 23 November 1715 in Barnstable, John Jenkins, who was born there 13 November 1659, and died there 8 July 1736, son of John & Mary (Wallen) Jenkins, and widower of Mary (Parker) Jenkins.
