My 8th-great-grandfather, Richard Sparrow, son of Jonathan & Hannah (Prence) Sparrow, was born 17 March 1670 in Eastham, Massachusetts, and died there 13 April 1728. He married (as her first husband) 4 February 1701 in Orleans, Massachusetts, Mercy Cobb, who was born 9 April 1685 in Barnstable, Massachusetts, and died c. 1732, daughter of James & Sarah (Lewis) Cobb.
Mercy married (as her second husband and as his second wife) 19 April 1729, Israel Doane, who was born c. 1672, and died 5 June 1740 in Barnstable, son of Daniel Doane, and widower of Ruth (Freeman) Doane.
Mercy & Richard were the parents of nine children:
1. Richard Sparrow (my 7th-great-grandfather), born 10 November 1702 in Orleans, died there 5 June 1774. He married 26 September 1723 in Eastham, Hannah Shaw, who was born 20 June 1698 in Middleborough, Massachusetts, and died 9 February 1780 in Eastham, daughter of George & Constance (Doane) Shaw.
2. Rebecca Sparrow, born 12 October 1704 in Orleans, died c. 1744. She married 26 December 1728 in Eastham, Richard Mayo, who was born 13 January 1697 in Orleans, and died 8 May 1744 in Middletown, Connecticut, son of Thomas & Barbara (Knowles) Mayo.
3. Mercy Sparrow, born 6 December 1706 in Orleans, died 14 February 1740 in Eastham. She married (as his first wife) 22 February 1726 in Eastham, Zebulon Young, who was born c. 1702, and died 29 December 1788 in Orleans, son of Nathaniel & Mercy (Davis) Young.
4. Sarah Sparrow (my 7th-great-grandmother), born 20 July 1708 in Orleans, died there 21 August 1790. She married (as his second wife) 25 September 1729 in Eastham, Lt. Edmund Freeman, who was born there c. 1702, and died 22 July 1782 in Orleans, son of Edmund & Sarah (Mayo) Freeman, and widower of Lois (Paine) Freeman.
5. Hannah Sparrow, born 12 October 1711 in Orleans, died 20 September 1784 in East Hampton, Connecticut. She married 11 February 1731 in Eastham, Josiah Cook, who was born there 30 August 1707, and died before 24 June 1775 in East Hampton, son of Joshua & Patience (Doane) Cook.
6. Elizabeth Sparrow, born 18 April 1717 in Orleans, died 30 December 1793 in Harwich. She married 14 March 1733 in Eastham, Elisha Doane, who was born 3 February 1705 in Orleans, and died after 1 August 1765, son of Joseph & Mary (Godfrey) Doane.
7. Mary Sparrow, born 12 March 1719 in Orleans, died 17 April 1785 in East Hampton. She married 19 March 1737 in Eastham, Dea. Isaac Smith, who was born 17 November 1716 in Orleans, and died 29 July 1802 in Easth Hampton, son of Ralph & Mary (Mayo) Smith.
8. Priscilla Sparrow, born 8 July 1722 in Orleans, died c. 1805. She married 5 March 1747 in Eastham, David Snow, who was born 30 October 1711 in Orleans, and died 23 February 1776 in Eastham, son of Micajah & Mercy (Young) Snow.
9. Jonathan Sparrow, born 17 December 1724 in Orleans, died there 23 February 1728.
