Turner, John & Mary Brewster

Tim’s 9th-great-grandfather, John “The Elder” Turner, son of Humphrey & Lydia (Gaymer) Turner, was baptized 24 March 1622 in Terling, England, and died before 28 June 1697 in Scituate, Massachusetts. He married 12 November 1645 in Scituate, Mary Brewster, who was born 16 April 1627 in Plymouth, Massachusetts, and died after 23 March 1698, daughter of Jonathan & Lucretia (Oldham) Brewster.

John was called “the Elder” because his younger brother was also named John and was called “the Younger.”

His great affection was for his brother of the same name. These two were much attached to one another. Whenever one was named to any committee, any jury of the Court at Plymouth, or any group to distribute land, the other was also inevitably named.
