Tim’s 3rd-great-grandfather, Jacob Rodgers, son of Eli & Hannah (Cook) Rodgers, was born c. 1798 in Guysborough, Nova Scotia, and died 10 January 1872. He married (as his first wife) 18 January 1819 in Guysborough, Mahala Bedford, who was born there 25 April 1800 and died there 1 February 1864, daughter of Levan & Esther (Hamilton) Bedford.
Jacob married (as his second wife) 18 February 1868, Susanna Dort, who was born 18 February 1822 in Guysborough, daughter of Valentine & Eva (Snyder) Dort. On the 1881 census Susanna was listed as German and of the Church of England religion.
On the 1871 census, Jacob’s nationality is listed as “Scot” and his religion, Baptist. He was a fisher and a farmer, Mahala was a homemaker, and they lie buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Guysborough.
Jacob & Mahala were the parents of eight children, order uncertain:
1. Hannah Rodgers, born 2 March 1824 in Guysborough, died there 22 November 1891. She married 1 February 1847 in Guysborough, Robert J. Atkins, who was born c. 1821 and died 4 June 1886, son of Daniel & Charity (Jamieson) Atkins.
2. Elijah Rodgers (Tim’s 2nd-great-grandfather), born 4 October 1834 in Guysborough, died 19 June 1925 in Provincetown, Massachusetts. He married 15 December 1863 in Toby Cove, Nova Scotia, Zipporah Ann Horton, who was born 22 February 1838 in Cook’s Cove, Nova Scotia, and died 6 March 1920 in Provincetown, daughter of Charles & Eliza (Hanley) Horton.
3. Neadom Rodgers (Tim’s 2nd-great-grandfather), born 11 June 1837 in Guysborough, died 30 June 1897 in Provincetown. He married 3 April 1866 in Boston, Massachusetts, Hanorah “Nora” O’Brien, who was born there 12 December 1846, and died 16 January 1921 in Marshfield, Massachusetts, daughter of William & Mary (—) O’Brien.
