Lucas, Caleb & Asenath Shurtleff

My 4th-great-grandfather, Caleb Lucas, son of Barnabas & Joanna (Pierce) Lucas, was born c. 1771, and died 18 August 1824 in Carver, Massachusetts. He married 1 September 1796 in Carver, Asenath “Sena” Shurtleff, who was born 28 December 1774 in Middleborough, Massachusetts, and died 1 November 1831 in Carver, daughter of William & Ruth (Shaw) Shurtleff.

Asenath lies buried in Lakenham Cemetery in Carver, Massachusetts. Perhaps Caleb is buried there, too, but there is no stone. Sandra Lennox states:

Asenath & Caleb were the parents of seven children:

1. Aaron Lucas, born 1 December 1796 in Middleborough, died c. 1814 in Canada.

2. Caleb Lucas, born 28 February 1798 in Middleborough, died there 9 February 1872. He married (as her second husband) 29 August 1829 in Carver, Mary (Blackington) McMasters, who was born c. 1800, and died 28 June 1847 in Middleborough, daughter of William & Elizabeth (Hadley) Blackington, and widow of Adams McMasters.

3. Priscilla Lucas, born 3 April 1799 in Middleborough, died there 28 January 1800.

4. Warren Lucas, born 2 January 1801 in Middleborough, died 18 February 1860 in Bridgewater, Massachusetts. He married 9 September 1827 in Plymouth, Massachusetts, Charlotte Hathaway, who was born there 13 October 1809, and died 9 April 1882 in Carver, daughter of Silas & Deborah (Dunham) Hathaway.

5. Harriet Shurtleff Lucas, born 2 October 1804 in Carver, died there 17 November 1878. She married 28 January 1826 in Middleborough, her second cousin, Benjamin H. Atwood, who was born 26 December 1791 in Carver, and died 18 July 1860 in Plympton, Massachusetts, son of John & Patience (Shaw) Atwood.

6. Waitstill Lucas (my 3rd-great-grandmother), born 7 October 1807 in Carver, and died there 30 March 1876. She married 12 October 1830 in Middleborough, her second cousin, twice removed, Ebenezer Atwood, who was born 3 September 1803 in Carver, and died there 28 December 1865, son of Samuel & Patience (Cobb) Atwood.

7. Priscilla S. Lucas, born June 1813 in Middleborough, died 28 December 1886 in New Bedford, Massachusetts. She married c. 1836, Josiah Coggeshall, who was born 21 September 1813 in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, and died 9 January 1854 in New Bedford, son of Simeon & Phebe (Taber) Coggeshall.
