Tim’s 5th-great-grandfather, Stephen Hamilton, son of John & Elizabeth (de Peyster) Hamilton, died in July 1759 at the Battle of Ticonderoga in the French & Indian War.
Stephen was the father of three sons who fought in the Revolutionary War:
1. Benjamin Hamilton, married c. 1780, Rebecca Thompkins.
2. David Hamilton.
3. William Hamilton (Tim’s 4th-great-grandfather), born c. 1756 in Hanover, New Jersey, died November 1824 in Morristown, New Jersey. He married (as his first wife) 5 January 1775, Elizabeth Rogers, who was born c. 1757 in Morristown, and died there in childbirth 27 July 1775, daughter of John & Hannah (Mack) Rogers.
William married (as his second wife) c. 1778, Nellie Hurd (Tim’s 4th-great-grandmother), who was born c. 1762, daughter of Josiah & Hannah (Brown) Hurd.
