Brewster, William & Mary

Mayflower in Plymouth Harbor by William Halsall

Our 11th-great-grandfather, William Brewster, was born c. 1566 in Scrooby, England, and died 10 April 1644 in Plymouth Colony. He married c. 1592 in England, Mary (—), who was born c. 1568, and died 17 April 1627 in Plymouth.

Tim & I are 12th cousins, both of us descend from our common ancestors, William Brewster and Mary, his wife, who arrived in America on the Mayflower in 1620 with their two youngest children, Love and Wrestling. Mary survived the first winter and was present at the first harvest feast in 1621. Biographical sketches of this couple can be found here and here, on Caleb Johnson’s wonderful Mayflower History website.

Mary & William were the parents of six children:

1. Jonathan Brewster (Tim’s 10th-great-grandfather), born 12 August 1593 in Scrooby, died 7 August 1659 in Preston, Connecticut. Jonathan arrived in 1621 on the Fortune. He married 10 April 1624 in Plymouth, Lucretia Oldham, who was baptized 14 January 1600 in Derby, England, and died 4 March 1671 in Preston, daughter of William & Philippa (Sowter) Oldham. Jonathan & Lucretia were the parents of eight children

2. Patience Brewster (my 10th-great-grandmother), born c. 1600, died before 12 December 1634 in Plymouth. Patience arrived in 1623 on the Anne. Patience & Thomas were the parents of four children.

3. Fear Brewster, born c. 1605, died before 12 December 1634 in Plymouth. Fear arrived in 1623 on the Anne. She married (as his second wife) c. 1625, Isaac Allerton (my 10th-great-grandfather), who was born c. 1586, and died before 12 February 1659. Fear & Isaac were the parents of two children. *Isaac was the widower of my 10th-great-grandmother, Mary Norris.
