fleurs de printemps

“Spring Flowers” by Henri Fantin-Latour

What stood will stand, though all be fallen,
The good return that time has stolen.
Though creatures groan in misery,
Their flesh prefigures liberty
To end travail and bring to birth
Their new perfection in new earth.
At word of that enlivening

Let the trees of the woods all sing
And every field rejoice, let praise
Rise up out of the ground like grass.
What stood, whole in every piecemeal
Thing that stood, will stand though all
Fall — field and woods and all in them
Rejoin the primal Sabbath’s hymn.

      1. They have a lot to sing for – Spring has actually sprung! We were in the 20s this morning and had a dusting of snow overnight. The weatherman said the daffodils looked cheery a couple of days ago and look pretty bad now.

        1. Seems like weather whiplash is getting to everyone everywhere. We’re down to 36°F this morning and will go up to 82°F by Saturday afternoon. I’ve been going back and forth between heating and cooling – it’s crazy! But at least it looks like spring out there. 🌾

          1. That is crazy isn’t it? I don’t see any flowers out next door or across the street – no one else around here has bulbs that come up. I still have the heat on, no A/C yet, but I have had days in the past where I have heat on in the morning and A/C in the afternoon. I am still waiting to see Spring here. 🙂 With all the rain we’ve had, there sure ought to be a lot of flowers. I had an errand day today and saw many companies out cutting the grass already.
