When Nature made the bluebird she wished to propitiate both the sky and the earth, so she gave him the color of the one on his back and the hue of the other on his breast, and ordained that his appearance in spring should denote that the strife and war between these two elements was at an end. He is the peace-harbinger; in him the celestial and terrestrial strike hands and are fast friends. He means the furrow and he means the warmth; he means all the soft, wooing influences of the spring on the one hand, and the retreating footsteps of winter on the other.

Well said, John Burroughs!
Agreed!
Happy Equinox!
Thank you, Eliza!
John Burroughs and Henry Ford were friends and birders. This is a beautiful picture of a bluebird and as good as any of yours Barbara! Spring – let the heat begin for you and who knows what for us in the Mitten State. My morning to mid-day Accuweather meteorologist that I like says we are in for a cool Spring. Well hopefully that tamps down the severe weather!
Thank you, Linda! We’re on a weather roller coaster these days, I’ve been switching back and forth between the air-conditioning and the heat with as much as 20 degree differences in morning lows. Definitely have to check the temperature before I go outside. We’re still in a severe drought, in spite of a little bit of rain here and there.
That is bizarre weather indeed. We were 28 degrees when I went out this morning and at least it didn’t snow, but the sky was dark enough to seem like it would. Wednesday we are in the 50s and Thursday low 70s which will bring a severe storm (level 1 right now) from the heat spike on Thursday night then we zoom back to the 20s again. We are finally out of moderate drought from all the recent rain (more so than the Winter snow).
