  1. Still muddling over: “Our truest life is when we are in dreams awake.” …is it saying when we dream of being awake ? or when we’re awake and “day dreaming” ? Rhetorical question. No answer required.

    1. Thank you for making me smile, Sybil. 🙂 You kind of remind me of my husband – he loves to ask rhetorical questions whenever I get too carried away with metaphors and poetry, and his logical approach never fails to crack me up. 🙂 Well, almost never…

    1. Now that you mention it I do see the similarity between the two artists. Your comment and link put me on a little search through my library. I have a copy of “East of the Sun and West of the Moon” which belonged to my mother – she inscribed her name on the bookplate and the writing is that of a child. It was published by Garden City Publishing Co. but has no publishing date. A quick internet search shows the edition I have was published in 1932 and my mom was born in 1931, so that fits. As a child I loved these old tales from the north and the magical illustrations, too. I think I will read this book again! Thanks, Aubrey!

    1. Sometimes I think it means that when we are aware of our dreams we can live more authentically than if we drift along the surface, afraid to go deeper and know ourselves. It’s wonderful how the one word, dream, can stir up so many interesting thoughts and interpretations.

  2. Love this post, Barbara. The Thoreau quote is one of my favorites. I’ve been having interesting dreams lately. I often wonder if my daily meditation challenge/practice is having an influence.

    1. Thank you, Robin. It wouldn’t surprise me at all to discover a deep connection between meditation and dreams. My dreams have been full of surprises in recent years, and some times I mull them over for days…
