This darling little grazing herbivore lives out west, where I have yet to go, and makes her nest inside of a burrow which she digs out for herself. There has been a flurry of activity in our little nest, too. The “new” barista has arrived!
Ever since November when his brother spoiled us by making soy lattes for us every morning, Tim has been on the lookout for an opportunity to purchase a barista secondhand. He finally located a great deal in the city of New York, of all places, and mobilized our daughter, who lives there, into procuring it for him.
Larisa would do anything for her papa and so she made an appointment with the seller and went to pick up the barista and all of its accessories. As she puts it, the buses were not working in her favor that day and she wound up carrying the heavy appliance for ten blocks. When she arrived at the lobby of her six-story walk-up, completely worn out, she called boyfriend Dima to come downstairs and carry it up the stairs for her!
Then it was up to us to plan another expedition to the big city to pick up the barista. This past Saturday turned out to be the best time for all concerned so we rented another car and returned to New York for the second time in the space of a month. But it was a great excuse for another visit and we enjoyed a pleasant afternoon playing a new (to us) card game, Dominion. Dima & Larisa patiently taught us all the rules and by the time we caught on it was time to leave.
The past couple of days our nest has been thrown into a state of disarray as we debated the most logical place to keep this new prized possession. Other small appliances have been moved here and there to make the best use of available outlets and faucets. A shelf unit has come up from the basement to accommodate the slow cooker collection, and a small table that is now too big for the remaining space has been moved out. And of course I couldn’t rest until I redecorated around all these changes…
Perhaps it would be easier to be a bunny and live on a simple diet of sagebrush. But I have to admit, these soy lattes are tasting very good!
CONGRATULATIONS! (Shhhhh, don’t tell anyone, but I had to Google “Barista Machine” to see what it looks like). YOWZA — that’s a ginormous piece of equipment! But if you’re whipping out drinks like they serve at Starbuck’s, Carribou, and Einstein Brothers, you’ve got a miracle on your hands!
A miracle, indeed! I have yet to learn how to operate the barista – maybe I’ll take a lesson from Tim when the dust settles around here. 🙂 In the meantime, what Tim whips up is pure pleasure!
Hi,
That picture is just too cute for words. 🙂
Like Laurie, I also had to google the same thing. LOL
Fancy having to carry that 10 blocks, I do admire her stamina, I can certainly understand why she needed someone to carry it up the stairs.
Isn’t that the sweetest little bunny ever? 🙂 I suppose I could have taken a photo of the new barista for you and Laurie, but it’s kind of unattractive and I was impatient to use the bunny photo on my blog before winter was over. And I still haven’t found the right decoration to hang beside it…
Larisa is very strong – she once carried two car batteries from the auto parts store out to our cars, one in each hand. I couldn’t even pick one of them up!
How wonderful! I’m a soy-latte-person too and share your excitement over having such an amazing piece of coffee making equipment in your own kitchen. What a nice way to start the day 🙂
Colleen, you’re a soy latte sister! 🙂 I agree, there is no better way to start the day. Even if the barista is a space hog and very noisy, like Pavlov’s dog, as soon as I hear that commotion in the kitchen I start salivating. 😉
My daughter has been threatening to buy a barista for some time now, and my complaint has always been “where would we put it?!” I must have her read this post, just to point out the lengths you went to, to accomodate your new machine. 🙂
Love the bunny. We have wild hares living around our area and they are very cute also.
At least you know enough about the size of a barista to pose the question to your daughter! 🙂 I had no idea what a barista looks like or how much it weighs or how much noise it makes. In fact I was so oblivious to these pertinent details that I asked Larisa to mail it to us when she first told me that she had picked it up. LOL
Since you mentioned hares I started wondering if they were the same things as rabbits, and found this interesting link that explains the difference:

Learned something new today…
Maybe I’ll see some pictures of your wild hares on your blog one of these days!
We rescued a heat exhausted hare about a year ago and he was ‘star for the day’ on my blog! Here’s the link – http://www.home-life-online.com/where-the-wild-creatures-live.html He was so cute and we would have loved to have kept him, but knew that wouldn’t be a wise thing to do.
Thank you for the link, Joanne! He was such an adorable little fellow – I hope things turned out well for him. He was very lucky to be rescued by you!
I would LOVE to have a cuppa coffee with you some fine morning. We would swap tails–nay, tales–of rabbits and daughters in NYC. I still think it’s so interesting the similarity in the names of our daughter’s boyfriends. Please pass the cream. And do you want to go for a walk afterwards?
Oh my, yes, we WILL have a cup of Tim’s coffee – he’s started to talk about creating more than lattes – some fine morning… And then we’ll take a lovely walk – along the beach or into the woods? Is Diaa a nickname or his full name? Turns out Dima is a nickname for Dimitri! 🙂
It took me a while with my insomnia-frazzled brain to work out why a rabbit would want coffee… but I get it, it’s you not the bunny that does! 🙂 I hope your Barista makes good lattes. There was a place we visited a few years ago that had the most fabulous latte… but it’s in mountainous country and we’ve not yet been back… one day. If we had space we’d probably get one of these machines, but alas…
Sorry to have added to your frazzle, Val! The only way I can explain it is that I just HAD to use to bunny photo and I just HAD to share the barista tale, even if the bunny’s tail was not visible in the picture. 🙂
I hope you get back to the coffee shop with the fabulous lattes one of these days. We didn’t really have the space for the barista, either, but Tim was determined to make it work… It took a couple of days. It still startles me each time I walk into the kitchen, but I’m sure I’ll grow accustomed to its presence sooner or later. 😉
Hello Barbara, I’m sorry I haven’t been coming over here for the couple of days. Its great to know you’ve got your own barista machine now. You can enjoy the rich cup of coffee in your own house! 🙂 The rabbit is very cute, I guess the lovely little animal is enjoying the snow around. It makes me feel fluffy 😉
It’s always nice to have a visit from you, Sonali! No need to apologize… 🙂 The coffee is a real treat and worth all the disruption to our “nest.” I’m happy you like the little snow bunny, too. 😉 Sometimes snow can be light, soft and fluffy and sometimes it can be wet, heavy and icy – and everything in between!
Hi. Hope you are having fun with the new machine. I am not a coffee drinker, but we do have one of those coffee machines that makes coffee from pre-measured ‘cups’. My sister’s dog thinks it is another dog and barks at it! The bunny looks very innocent. Jane
I’m smiling while imagining your sister’s dog barking at your coffee machine! I’m starting to want a bunny of my every own – I wonder if they trigger allergies in sensitive people – I’m allergic to cats and dogs. I’m not a coffee drinker usually, either, mostly a tea lover. But these soy lattes are so delicious!
That’s got to be one of the cutest creatures I’ve seen!
Me, too – she’s so adorable!!! 🙂
