My 6th-great-grandfather, Capt. Barnabas Shurtleff, son of William & Susanna (Lothrop) Shurtleff, was born 17 March 1696 in Plymouth, Massachusetts, and died 18 May 1759 in Carver, Massachusetts. He married 16 March 1726 in Plymouth, Jemima Adams, who was born there 12 January 1707, and died 26 November 1773 in Plympton, Massachusetts, daughter of Francis & Mary (Buck) Adams.
Barnabas & Jemima lie buried in Lakenham Cemetery in Carver, Massachusetts.

Mr. Shurtleff was captain of a military company and a justice of the peace. He died with the measles.
Barnabas & Jemima were the parents of nine children:
1. Susanna Silence Shurtleff, born 12 January 1728 in Plympton, died there 29 November 1771. She married (as his first wife) 5 December 1748 in Plympton, her first cousin, Nathaniel Atwood, who was born there 11 December 1725, and died 19 October 1804 in Carver, son of Nathaniel & Mary (Adams) Atwood.
2. Jemima Shurtleff, born 24 July 1730 in Plympton, died there 24 September 1781. She married 6 October 1776 in Plympton, Ebenezer Lawrence.
3. Barnabas Shurtleff, born 28 November 1733 in Plympton, died there 20 September 1745.
4. Molly Shurtleff, born 24 April 1735 in Plympton, died there 26 September 1745.
5. Lt. Francis Shurtleff (my 5th-great-grandfather), born 8 April 1738 in Plympton, died 14 August 1794 in Carver. He married (as her first husband) on 7 August 1760 in Plympton, Mary Shaw, who was born there 4 March 1742, and died 1 March 1816 in Carver, daughter of Nathaniel & Hannah (Perkins) Shaw.
6. Caleb Loring Shurtleff, born 12 November 1740 in Plympton, died there 20 September 1745.
7. Elizabeth Shurtleff, born 27 June 1743 in Plympton, died 21 April 1824 in Carver. She married 18 July 1765 in Plympton, Hezekiah Cole, who was born there 8 January 1743, and died 6 July 1797 in Carver, son of James & Mercy (Tillson) Cole.
8. Molly Shurtleff, born 1 November 1747 in Plympton, died 15 July 1831 in Middleborough, Massachusetts. She married 18 April 1771 in Plympton, Isaac Perkins, who was born 7 July 1744 in Middleborough, and died there 28 June 1839, son of Josiah & Deborah (Bennett) Perkins.
9. Barnabas Shurtleff, born 3 June 1750 in Plympton, died 23 March 1832 in Carver. He married 18 May 1775 in Plympton, Phebe Harlow, who was born 23 October 1757 in Plymouth, and died 27 October 1836 in Carver, daughter of Benjamin & Elizabeth (Stephens) Harlow.
