My 6th-great-grandfather, Joshua Hopkins, son of Joshua & Priscilla (Curtis) Hopkins, was born 18 July 1725 in Eastham, Massachusetts, and died before 15 November 1775. He married 14 May 1747 in Eastham, Rebecca Sparrow, who was born there 27 January 1727, and died c. 1798, daughter of Richard & Hannah (Shaw) Sparrow.
Joshua & Rebecca were the parents of ten children:
1. Lydia Hopkins, born 7 February 1747 in Eastham. She married 15 January 1767 in Eastham, David Higgins, who was born there 1 August 1746, and died c. 1812 in Eden, Maine, son of Moses & Elizabeth (Arey) Higgins. Lydia & David were the parents of twelve children.
2. Rebecca Hopkins, born 9 November 1749 in Eastham, died c. 1826, unmarried.
3. Mary Hopkins, born 25 June 1751 in Eastham, died there 5 September 1797. She married 2 November 1769 in Harwich, Massachusetts, Jesse Kenney, who was born c. 1747, son of Nathan & Mercy (Smith) Kenney. Mary & Jesse were the parents of nine children.
4. Joshua Hopkins, born 19 September 1753 in Eastham, died there 19 March 1842. He married 24 December 1772 in Eastham, his half third cousin, Ruth Linnell, who was born there 16 May 1752, and died there 18 November 1835, daughter of Jonathan & Mercy (Mayo) Linnell. Joshua & Ruth were the parents of seven children.
5. John Hopkins, born 9 February 1756 in Eastham, died c. 1787. He married 4 September 1777 in Orleans, Massachusetts, his third cousin, Azuba Bassett, who was born 5 September 1756 in Chatham, Massachusetts, and died c. 1823, daughter of Thomas & Deborah (Godfrey) Bassett. John & Azuba were the parents of a daughter.
6. Elkanah Hopkins, born 18 May 1758 in Eastham, died c. 1810. He married 10 January 1786 in Eastham, Temperance Snow, who was born 8 February 1760 in Orleans, Massachusetts and died c. 1804. Elkanah & Temperance were the parents of two sons.
7. Mercy Hopkins, born 13 November 1761 in Eastham, died 6 June 1826. She married 12 October 1780 in Eastham, John Yates, who was born there 7 January 1755, and died 4 April 1834 in Standish, Maine, son of John & Thankful (King) Yates. Mercy & John were the parents of two children.
8. Abigail Hopkins (my 5th-great-grandmother), born 19 December 1764 in Eastham, died in November 1829. She married 22 January 1784 in Eastham, her second cousin, John Freeman, who was born 10 November 1761 in Orleans, and died c. 1817, son of Jonathan & Thankful (Linnell) Freeman. Abigail & John were the parents of eleven children.
9. Elisha Hopkins, born 20 May 1767 in Eastham, died there 4 July 1790.
10. Curtis Hopkins, born 26 October 1772 in Eastham, died 27 February 1847 in Orleans. He married 8 January 1801 in Orleans, Abigail “Nabby” Twining, who was born there 25 October 1768, and died 26 September 1854, daughter of Barnabas & Abigail (Nickerson) Twining. Curtis & Abigail were the parents of six children.
