My 3rd-great-grandfather, Reuel Atwood, son of Nathaniel & Zilpha (Shurtleff) Atwood, was born 24 June 1811 in Middleborough, Massachusetts, and died 6 September 1867 in Boston, Massachusetts. He married 25 March 1832 in Carver, Massachusetts, his sixth cousin, Abigail Savery “Abby” Tillson, who was born 20 January 1812 in Middleborough, and died 30 July 1883 in Abington, Massachusetts, daughter of Ichabod & Abigail (Bump) Tillson.
Abigail & Reuel were the parents of seven children:
1. Reuel Gardner Atwood (my 2nd-great-grandfather), born 5 February 1833 in Middleborough, died 19 August 1908 in Henniker, New Hampshire. He married 26 November 1860 in Middleborough, his half second cousin, once removed, Louisa Jane Atwood, who was born 6 April 1840 in Carver, Massachusetts, and died 12 January 1928 in Abington, daughter of Ebenezer & Waitstill (Lucas) Atwood.
2. Lucy Carver Atwood, born 26 February 1835 in Carver, died 13 March 1909 in Middleborough. She married 1 June 1851, Nelson Thomas, who was born 5 August 1826 in Middleborough, and died there 27 March 1908, son of Harvey Cushman & Hannah Cobb (Atwood) Thomas. Lucy & Nelson were the parents of nine children.
3. Flora Maria Atwood, born 11 June 1836 in Carver, died 9 January 1928 in Kingston, Massachusetts. She married in November 1854 in Carver, Charles Harrison Cole, who was born there 8 November 1833, and died 22 November 1910 in Kingston, son of James & Abigail S. (Ellis) Cole. Flora & Charles were the parents of seven children.
4. Zilpha Shurtleff Atwood, born 5 December 1838 in Carver, died 16 November 1909 in Crawfordsville, Indiana. She married (as her first husband) 6 September 1859 in Plympton, Massachusetts, John Curtis, who was born there 7 January 1819, and died 29 November 1860 in Plymouth, Massachusetts, son of John & Orpha (Loring) Curtis.
Zilpha married (as her second husband) in August 1865, her first husband’s younger brother, Lorenzo Thomas Curtis, who was born 4 October 1827 in Plympton, and died 18 December 1910 in Crawfordsville, son of John & Orpha (Loring) Curtis. Zilpha & Lorenzo were the parents of three sons.
5. Benjamin Savery Atwood, born 25 June 1840 in Carver, died 21 April 1923 in Whitman, Massachusetts. He married (as his first wife) in October 1862, Angelina Frances Williams Weston, who was born 25 March 1837 in Plympton, and died 4 March 1908 in Whitman, daughter of Lewis & Mary Ann (Blanchard) Weston. Benjamin & Angelina were the parents of four children.
Benjamin married (as his second wife and as her second husband) 1 June 1910 in Whitman, Elizabeth A. “Lizzie” (Snell) Sanborn, who was born 1 January 1859 in Madison, New Hampshire, and died 1 May 1919 in Whitman, daughter of Jerome & Hannah (Lord) Snell, and ex-wife of Harley D. Sanborn.
6. Elijah Hackett Atwood, born 28 February 1842 in Carver, died 31 March 1905 in Wayland, Massachusetts. He married 1 January 1866 in Middleborough, Mary Elizabeth Holmes, who was born 11 June 1842 in Plymouth and died 1 January 1933, daughter of Joseph & Elizabeth (Cobb) Holmes. Elijah & Mary were the parents of two children.
7. Lafayette Atwood, born 28 May 1854 in Carver, died 30 April 1909 in Monson, New Hampshire.
