My 5th-great-grandfather, Ichabod Atwood, son of Nathaniel & Mary (Adams) Atwood, was born 24 September 1744 in Plympton, Massachusetts, and died 24 August 1819 in Middleborough, Massachusetts. He married 19 February 1770 in Plympton, his first cousin, once removed, Hannah Shaw, who was born there 31 July 1751, and died 23 February 1848 in Middleborough, daughter of Nathaniel & Hannah (Perkins) Shaw.

They were the parents of twelve children:
1. Ansel Atwood, born 24 August 1770 in Middleborough, died there 3 January 1845.
2. Capt. Amasa Atwood, born 15 April 1772 in Middleborough, died there 22 May 1842.
3. Ichabod Atwood, born 4 May 1774 in Middleborough, died there 8 September 1849. He married 3 November 1798 in Middleborough, Elizabeth Harlow.
4. Mary “Polly” Atwood, born 27 March 1776 in Middleborough, died 2 October 1814 in Le Ray, New York. She married (as his first wife) 13 November 1796 in Middleborough, James Shurtleff, who was born 17 April 1768 in Carver, Massachusetts, and died 1 August 1846 in Plessis, New York, son of Abiel & Mary (LeBaron) Shurtleff.
5. Stephen Atwood, born 6 June 1778 in Middleborough, died 10 February 1865 in West Minot, Maine. He married October 1805 in Minot, Maine, Olive Bridgham, who was born 20 June 1784 in Hebron, Maine, and died 29 December 1852 in Minot, daughter of John & Sibbilla (Shaw) Bridgham.
6. Capt. Pelham Atwood, born 16 June 1780 in Middleborough, died there 29 May 1832.
7. Nathaniel Atwood (my 4th-great-grandfather), born 28 April 1782 in Middleborough, died there 26 January 1858. He married 1 February 1806 in Carver, his first cousin, Zilpha Shurtleff, who was born 21 July 1782 in Plympton, and died c. 1860 in Middleborough, daughter of Francis & Mary (Shaw) Shurtleff.
8. Uriel Atwood, born 24 February 1784 in Middleborough, died there 4 December 1865.
9. Elizabeth “Betsey” Atwood, born 17 May 1786 in Middleborough, died 4 September 1858 in Peoria, Illinois. She married 3 October 1811 in Middleborough, Joseph Ellis, who was born 26 February 1778 in Carver, and died 13 August 1838 in Peoria, son of Joseph & Hannah (Shurtleff) Ellis.
10. Hannah Atwood, born 30 January 1788 in Middleborough, died 7 January 1877 in Peekskill, New York. She married 16 July 1807 in Middleborough, Bartlett Murdock, who was born 1 December 1783 in Carver, and died 21 January 1847 in Wareham, Massachusetts, son of Bartlett & Deborah (Perkins) Murdock.
11. George Atwood, born 16 August 1790 in Middleborough, died there 9 January 1883. He married 11 November 1814 in Middleborough, Marcia Thompson, who was born there 15 June 1794 and died there 29 December 1873.
12. Sally Atwood, born 14 July 1792 in Middleborough, died c. 1851.
