Lovely pic. I get both Downey and Hairy Woodpeckers to my feeders … aren’t they neat ?
Thanks, Sybil. I wonder which kind of woodpecker this one is? When this one shows up it makes my day. He seems to prefer suet over seeds. 🙂
He’s pretty, isn’t he? Great capture, Barbara. Is he a Downy? (I don’t know why I’m assuming it’s a “he.”)
Actually, Tim got this picture! 🙂 I think he may be a downy because he seemed about 6 or 7 inches long – the hairy is longer. And he is a he because the females don’t have the red patch on the nape. (I looked it up!) Thanks for stopping by, Robin…
A beautiful capture of Mr. Downy!
Thank you, Tiny! (I’ll let Tim know.)
Hey! I think you and I are getting the same woodpecker at our suet feeder! 😳 Love the quote and the photo.
Thank you, Pam! This woodpecker must know where the best food in New England is to be found – I get so excited every time he stops by. 🙂
Me too – love watching the birds (who knew?) And in winter time, the red cardinal in the snow is the best.
During the blizzard on January 27 I had fun photographing a cardinal at my feeder. I’m hoping they will come back this winter. Just this morning I spotted a female but she flew off quickly – please come back soon!!! My mother was an avid bird watcher but when I was a child I thought it was such a boring occupation. Now I love it. 🙂
I know…I’m a little embarrassed to admit how much I ‘get into’ watching the birds. 🙂 🙂 Let me know when your cardinal comes to stay – maybe that means snow isn’t too far away!
Saw the female cardinal again yesterday afternoon! But where is the male??? I read they mate for life so I hope she isn’t a widow.
