made eternal by light

10.28.06 ~ Aurora Borealis in Norway by Rafal Konieczny

Light is everything in the world
to men’s eyes
Light thirsts after light
yes, the soul, twin to the stars
moves through space
to find, be made eternal by light
and grasp, trembling,
the sun
a torch handed on
from runner to runner
through the millennia.

  1. Hi,
I would dearly love to see an Aurora, it has been on my “Bucket List” for many years, the Auroras look so beautiful in pictures and videos, (sigh) maybe one day.

    1. Me, too, Mags! I always think if they look so stunning in photos that to see them with our naked eyes would be a awe-inspiring experience. I hope we both get to see the northern lights one day… I wonder if they see southern lights in Antarctica?

    1. Thank you for including me in your hug award! I don’t “do” awards, but I appreciate that you thought of me. 🙂

Someday I hope to see the aurora borealis and be transported to that other enchanting word!

    1. Thank you for letting me know about this, Connie. While I appreciate the thoughts and intentions that go into this award, I don’t “do” awards. I like connecting with people by means of blogs and leaving it at that. I hope you will understand!

  2. Hi Barbara. I was just thinking about the aurora. I love the line about passing on the torch. It reminds me of stories, passed from generation to generation. Nice post. Jane

    1. Thank you, Jane. I also love the idea of light connecting the generations from the distant past and way into the future, how we’re all in a moment together as one…

    1. Yes, the amazing photograph was taken by Rafal Konieczny, who shared it at Wikimedia Commons. I have several little treasured coffee table books with pictures of nature taken in Norway, accompanied by poems, many of them written by Norwegians, translated into English. Doses of inspiration for me to savor…

  3. Beautiful thought these are – both image and words – I wonder what metaphors would be used for spirit and soul if we were all unsighted. How do the blind perceive the same things?

By the way, I think the last comment I posted (on a different post) might have vanished. I hope this one posts okay.

    1. That’s a very good question, Val. I think of the movie, *Touch the Sound: A Sound Journey with Evelyn Glennie* about deaf percussionist Evelyn Glennie who experiences sound as a kind of touching or vibration. Light usually has some warmth to it, perhaps the blind use other senses to perceive light?

I hope your other post wasn’t lost. I’ve been trying to go about deleting spam a little more carefully – once in a while a valid comment turns up in there. 🙂

I welcome and appreciate your comments.
