posting from the hospital

Tim is still here in the hospital, but doing better each day. He’s progressed from clear liquids to Rice Krispies, bananas and yogurt. No estimated date of release yet… He’s napping (and snoring) at the moment so I’m seeing what mischief I can get into with his laptop, between my hot flashes… We’re supposed to get a winter storm on Friday.

This hospitalization has been easier for me to cope with than when Tim had his heart attack. The hospital is local and smaller, making it easy for me to get myself here and back home each night. I deeply appreciate all the healing energy being sent our way and I’m happy to report that I’ve gone two days without a migraine trying to get a hold of me.

In recent weeks we’ve discovered that we enjoy preparing food together, so today we’ve been planning what new recipes we’re going to try out when he gets back on his feet again.

I made a trip to the bookstore this morning looking for some science fiction books Tim wants to read. They didn’t have the ones he requested, so I’m lending him my Kindle. He can order them and read them while he’s here. He was starting to explore on the Kindle when he fell asleep in the recliner. This hospital has some pretty nice amenities… 🙂

  1. The new doctor of the day said if things keep progressing Barbara gets to take me home Thursday 🙂
He also said that hamburgers are about 10 days away on my progress plan.

    1. What if they’re venison and not beef? I have a small supply I could share!

Glad you’re on the mend Tim!

      1. Oh, Janet! Do you have a recipe for the venison? Tim didn’t seem too thrilled with the idea, but I’d love to try some. I don’t think Tim has ever tried it. I haven’t had deer or moose since I was a child. My (much older) cousin used to go on hunting trips to Canada and bring back the “moose caboose,” a refrigerated trailer he had hooked up to tow behind his El Camino….

        1. I love the idea of the “moose caboose”! Much better than my experiences (before we thought to have the deer processed by a local butcher). Of course, moose is a much larger beast than a deer is.

Recipes: first do you want to try making hamburgers, or would you prefer a nice stew, or chops on the grill? I have a recipe that we enjoy with onions and dried mustard if you are thinking hamburgers (still best on the grill). The recipes that I use for stew came from Erik and could be in a tangy sauce or more traditional but with dried cherries.

If any of that sounds interesting to Tim, I’d be glad to share!

Is your trip still on? Easter is at the end of April so we should have time to “make” some eggs before that if you’re still interested.

          1. A venison stew in one of Erik’s tangy sauces sounds perfect to me! Still no response from Tim, but he’s not eating much more than yogurt and crackers and bananas just yet. Will approach him again when he’s more open to the idea of heartier foods…

Trip has been postponed indefinitely. Tim is supposed to be starting a new project at work on Monday (if he’s well enough to go on Monday) so he wants to get that up and running before he takes any time off.

Would love to try the eggs just about any time convenient for you. Got my Yevshan Ukrainian catalog and am thinking about ordering a supply kit from them…

  2. Hello Barbara and Tim,

I’m glad you’ll be back home soon, cooking together and enjoying each others company!
